Valerie Laws (www.valerielaws.com ): Northumbrian poet,
crime novelist, science poetry installation artist, playwright and
mathematician/physicist with four full poetry collections among her thirteen
published books. She devises new poetic forms and science-themed poetry
installations and commissions including the infamous Arts Council–funded Quantum
Sheep, spray-painting haiku onto live
sheep.
Her recent collections THE FACEBOOK OF THE DEAD and
especially ALL THAT LIVES arise from several funded Residencies with
pathologists, neuroscientists and anatomists researching the science of dying.
She featured in BBC2’s Why Poetry Matters and performs worldwide live and in the media. Prizes and
awards include a Wellcome Trust Arts Award, two Northern Writers’ Awards and
many poetry prizes.
