ROSIE JACKSON lives in Teignmouth, Devon. Widely published, she has won many awards, including Commended National Poetry Competition 2022, 1^st prize Teignmouth 2021, joint 1^st prize Hedgehog Press 2020, 1^st prize Poetry Space 2019, 1^st prize Wells 2018, 1^st prize Stanley Spencer Competition 2017. A Hawthornden fellow in 2017 and nominated for the Pushcart prize 2021, her latest collection is Love Leans over the Table (Two Rivers Press, 2023).

Moniza Alvi: ‘rare, nourishing poems, open and vulnerable, spiritually aware and with an acute sense of beauty and struggle.’  

Other works include Light Makes it Easy (2022), Aloneness is a Many-headed Bird (with Dawn Gorman, 2020), Two Girls and a Beehive: Poems about Stanley Spencer and Hilda Carline (with Graham Burchell 2020).

Chaucer is the author of In an Ideal world I’d Not Be Murdered (Against the Grain 2021). She has been published in: Poetry Wales, Under the Radar, Poetry Salzburg, The North and Tears in the Fence, and was shortlisted for Live Canon 2021 International Poetry Competition. Chaucer is creator of Wild Whispers poetry film project and co-editor of the online magazine Poetry Film Live. Chaucer’s poetry film collection adapted from her book,  is now touring nationally and internationally.

Martyn Crucefix is a poet, critic and translator. His collection, Between a Drowning Man, has just been published by Salt. Cargo of Limbs appeared with Hercules Editions in 2019. These Numbered Days, translations of poems from the German of Peter Huchel (published by Shearsman Books) won the 2020 Schlegel-Tieck Translation Prize. His selected translations from across Rilke’s career will be published by Pushkin Press early in 2024 under the title, Change Your Life. Clare Best has published a ground-breaking prose memoir, The Missing List (Linen Press 2018) as well as three full collections of poetry and several pamphlets and collaborative works. Her new collection Beyond the Gate (Worple Press 2023) has been described in The Frogmore Papers as her ‘richest collection to date’ and in London Grip as ‘warmly intelligent, questioning’. In 2020-21 Clare held a Fellowship at Guildhall School of Music & Drama where she co-created three chamber operas and a song cycle. She teaches Creative Writing for The Open University.

David Clarke's first pamphlet, Gaud, won the Michael Marks award in 2013. His first collection, Arc, was published by Nine Arches Press in 2015 and was longlisted for the Polari Prize. Another pamphlet, Scare Stories, was published by V Press in 2017 and was named a Poetry School ‘Book the Year.’ His second collection, The Europeans, was published by Nine Arches in 2019, and was followed in 2023 by his third, The Field in Winter. His poems have appeared in publications including Magma, Poetry Wales and The Guardian.

As usual for our last one of the year, you may choose to read a favourite poem by someone else on the open mic.

 

Kate Noakes will be reading from her eighth collection, Goldhawk Road, which was published by Two Rivers Press in February 2023. She is presently researching a PhD on contemporary British American poetry and the poetics of the breath at the University of Reading. Kate has degrees in Geography, and English Literature and an MPhil in Creative Writing. She reviews poetry collections for Poetry Wales, Poetry London, The North and London Grip.
